Volunteer Services Program
The goal of the Massachusetts Hospital School Volunteer Program is to help enrich the environment of the patients as well as to provide a meaningful experience for the volunteer.
The Volunteer Department of the Massachusetts Hospital School is a vital part of our total commitment to the care and treatment of physically disabled children and young adults. The Volunteer Service Program provides resources for the patient and staff while offering volunteer opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds. The minimum age for an individual volunteer is fifteen (15) years. Selection and placement of volunteers is made after evaluation of the skills, talents and interest of each volunteer. Volunteers are selected without regard to age, sex, race, color, national origin or physical or mental disabilities. All applicants for volunteer positions must submit a form of identification and agree to a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check prior to assignment. All volunteers are subject to an orientation prior to the commencement of their assignments.
We welcome Corporate Volunteer Programs to participate in an approach to volunteerism and philanthropy that works within the parameters of their company’s guidelines. We have companies that donate funds for plants and then spend their volunteer day planting. We have companies that work one day per year around the campus and with the children.
We welcome student volunteers over the age of 15 as individuals or scheduled through their school volunteer program requirements.
We hope that through these times on campus that we can share the lessons that the children have taught us about the generosity of spirit with all our community supporters interested in volunteering.

On Friday June 19th, a group of volunteers came from Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare to help clean up the campus.

This past summer Amanda intern with the Recreation Department, being a 1:1 aide during summer program. She wrote the following letter to the Recreation Staff: "I just wanted to thank all of you for everything this past summer. It was unbelievable experience and I am so blessed to have done my internship with you. I learned so much from each one of you and I will take those lessons with me in my future endeavor. I wish you all the best of luck. Thank you again."
